Molten state refers to the liquid form of a substance that is normally solid at standard temperature and pressure, but has been heated to a point where it has melted and become a liquid. The term "molten" denotes the liquid form of a solid EHS (Extremely Hazardous Substance) at elevated temperature. Molten state is obtained only through the application of heat, not through dissolving a substance in a solvent. An electrolyte is defined as a substance that in its molten state or in solution with water can conduct a current of electricity. Some common examples of materials that can become molten include metals and glass.
