MRCP stands for Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography, which is a type of imaging test that uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to produce detailed images of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, and pancreatic duct. It is a non-invasive test that can help diagnose various medical conditions, such as bile duct cancer, bile duct stones or cysts, blocked or narrowed bile duct, blocked, narrowed or dilated pancreatic ducts, dilated bile ducts, gallstones, inflammation in the pancreas or gallbladder, pancreatic cancer, and pancreatic cysts and pseudocysts.
It is important to note that MRCP can also refer to the MRCP(UK) Diploma and Specialty Certificate Examinations, which are designed to test the skills, knowledge, and behavior of doctors in training. The exam has three parts, and successful completion of the entire three-part examination is required before one can start specialist internal medicine training in the UK.
