The NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) rating is a safety rating system for comparing cars, which helps consumers judge the crash safety of different makes and models. The rating of a car is decided from tests that recreate real-life accidents that have caused serious injury or death. The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) is a five-star safety rating system for comparing cars, and it introduced the overall safety rating in 2009, based on assessment in four important areas: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Pedestrian Protection, and Safety Assist. The number of stars reflects how well the car performs in Euro NCAP tests, but it is also influenced by what safety equipment the vehicle manufacturer is offering in each market. A high number of stars shows not only that the test result was good, but also that safety equipment on the tested model is readily available to all consumers in Europe. The Global New Car Assessment Programme (G-NCAP) is a Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA)-funded body, which evaluates the crashworthiness of a car via some crash tests set with various vital parameters. In India, the Global NCAP has been testing the frontal crash performance of passenger cars since 2014, and they have tested 50 cars till February 2022.
