The NDMA emergency alert is a system developed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to disseminate time-sensitive disaster management messages to all mobile devices within specified geographical areas, regardless of whether the recipients are residents or visitors. The Cell Broadcast Alert System technology enables the dissemination of crucial emergency information to as many individuals as possible promptly. The NDMA emergency alert system is designed to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies. The NDMA and DoT are conducting comprehensive testing of the Cell Broadcast Alert System in diverse regions throughout the country to bolster emergency communication during disasters and prioritize the safety and well-being of the people. The NDMA is responsible for framing policies, laying down guidelines, and best practices for coordinating with the State Disaster Management. The emergency alerts have been reportedly tested on Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Reliance Jio’s networks, as well as, on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea’s networks. The NDMA emergency alert system is part of the Sachet National Disaster Alert Portal, which is the first and only portal across India to publish official warnings for all disasters from authorized sources.
