Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity is a concept that describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world in various ways due to differences in brain function. It emphasizes that these differences are normal and should be embraced and encouraged. The neurodiversity paradigm encompasses conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), developmental speech disorders, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysnomia, intellectual disability, Tourette syndrome, and sometimes mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder. The movement aims to increase acceptance and inclusion of all people while embracing neurological differences and reducing stigma. It also advocates for changes in language and reconceptualization of these conditions in society, emphasizing autonomy and giving neurodivergent individuals more control over their treatment.
