Neurovegetative depression refers to a set of symptoms, especially the physical changes associated with depression. These symptoms are directly related to the body and include insomnia/hypersomnia, dysregulated eating, fatigue, and decreased libido. In adults, symptom-based subtypes of depression identified using data-driven methods mainly differed in patterns of neurovegetative symptoms such as sleep and appetite. Over one-third of minor/intermittent depressed patients with chronic pain exhibited atypical (reversed) vegetative symptoms of hyperphagia and weight gain. These symptoms are characteristic of "atypical depression," seasonal affective disorder, bulimia nervosa, premenstrual disorders, and other conditions.
