Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to communication and personal development that focuses on how individuals organize their thinking, feelings, and language. It is a set of principles and techniques aimed at enhancing self-awareness, increasing confidence, building skills such as self-reflection, confidence, and communication, and promoting personal growth. NLP uses perceptual, behavioral, and communication techniques to make it easier for people to change their thoughts and actions. It tries to detect and modify unconscious biases or limitations of an individual’s map of the world. NLP is not hypnotherapy, but instead, it operates through the conscious use of language to bring about changes in someone’s thoughts and behavior. NLP has been used to assess and treat a variety of clinical symptoms, including depression, anxiety, and stress. It can also be used to treat phobias and improve workplace performance or personal happiness. However, despite being around for nearly half a century, NLP is currently not recognized in mainstream psychology, and research into the practice is still underdeveloped.
