The National Security Guard (NSG), commonly known as Black Cats, is a counter-terrorism unit of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was founded on 16 October 1984, following Operation Blue Star, for combating terrorist activities and protecting states against internal disturbances. NSG is a specialist force to tackle terror activities in any part of the country and is a world-class "Zero Error Force". The NSG is a federal contingency deployment force to conduct anti-hijack operations, rescue operations, and to provide tough support to the Central Para Military forces. The NSG is served by officers/personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces, Indian Army, and State Police Forces. The NSG has a strength of 10,000 active personnel and is headquartered in New Delhi. The NSG has conducted several successful operations, including the operation at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai.
