Nyx is the Greek goddess and personification of the night. She is a primordial god, one of the first born gods of the Greek cosmos. Nyx was born from Chaos and is the mother of Aether and Hemera. She is depicted as a beautiful woman, dressed in black, surrounded by mist, and often in the company of some of her numerous children. Nyx is often associated with other celestial deities such as Selene, Helios, and Eos. In ancient Greek art, Nyx is often depicted as a winged figure driving a horse-pulled chariot. Although she was of little cultic importance, she was associated with several oracles. Nyx is not the figurehead of any cult or group, but was worshipped as a background deity in many of the ones for other gods and goddesses.
