Ocean
The ocean is a vast body of saltwater that covers about 71% of the Earths surface, containing approximately 97% of the Earths water. It is essential for sustaining life on Earth and plays a crucial role in regulating global temperatures by absorbing and releasing heat. The ocean is divided into several distinct regions, including the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern (recognized by National Geographic in 2021), and Arctic Oceans. The oceans continuous body of saltwater is held in enormous basins on Earths surface, covering nearly 71% of the planets surface with an average depth of 3,688 meters. The term "ocean" is often used interchangeably with "sea," although strictly speaking, a "sea" is a body of water partly or fully enclosed by land.
