Odd is a term that can have different meanings depending on the context. In the medical field, ODD stands for Oppositional Defiant Disorder, which is a type of behavior disorder in children that causes extreme anger and irritability. Children with ODD often argue with authority figures and refuse to follow rules. Symptoms of ODD may include frequent temper tantrums, arguing a lot with adults, refusing to do what an adult asks, always questioning rules and refusing to follow them, doing things to annoy or upset others, blaming others for the child’s own misbehaviors or mistakes, being easily annoyed by others, often having an angry attitude, and speaking harshly or unkindly.
ODD is typically diagnosed around early elementary school ages and stops being diagnosed around adolescence. ODD is a complex problem, and possible risk factors for ODD include temperament, problems with parenting that may involve a lack of supervision, inconsistent or harsh discipline, or abuse or neglect, genetics, and environment.
