Offload App is a feature on iPhone and iPad that allows users to free up local storage space by deleting the app while keeping its data and documents saved locally. This feature is useful when you receive a "Storage Almost Full" alert on your device. Offloading an app is a middle ground between keeping and deleting an app. When you offload an app, the app itself is deleted, which clears local storage, but the app documents and data are still saved locally on your device. Offloaded apps cannot be used until they are reinstalled.
To offload an app manually, you can follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage.
- Tap an apps name for more information about its storage.
- Tap "Offload App" and confirm.
You can also enable automatic app offloading by going to Settings > App Store and toggling "Offload Unused Apps". Once enabled, apps that you haven't used for 12 days or more will be offloaded automatically in the background. If you want to disable automatic app offloading, you can go to Settings > App Store and toggle "Offload Unused Apps" to off.
