One Piece is a Japanese manga and anime series created by Eiichiro Oda. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy with the properties of rubber after eating a Devil Fruit, and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they explore the Grand Line in search of the mythical treasure known as the "One Piece" in order to become the next Pirate King. The series has been serialized in Shueishas shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 1997, with its individual chapters compiled into 106 tankōbon volumes as of July 2023. The anime adaptation produced by Toei Animation premiered on Fuji TV in October 1999 and has aired over 1,000 episodes as of September 2023.
The One Piece treasure is a key ingredient of the show and is sought out by pirates all over the world, including the Straw Hats. The series revolves around the concept of "Freedom," which Gol D. Roger, JoyBoy, and Luffy embody. Interestingly, after over 1,000 episodes, the series is yet to reveal the One Piece treasure or open hints on its true nature. The series has received a popular anime adaptation, multiple feature film adaptations, several video games, and now a live-action series from Netflix.
