Phenotype refers to the set of observable characteristics or traits of an organism. These characteristics include an organisms physical form and structure (morphology), developmental processes, biochemical and physiological properties, behavior, and the products of behavior. An organism's phenotype results from two basic factors: the expression of an organism's genetic code (its genotype) and the influence of environmental factors. Both factors may interact, further affecting the phenotype. Examples of phenotypes include height, eye color, blood type, wing length, hair color, and levels of hormones or blood cells. It is important to note that phenotypes are equally or sometimes more greatly influenced by environmental effects than genetic effects.
