The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is a set of Canadian immigration programs operated by the Government of Canada in partnership with individual provinces, each of which has its own requirements and streams. The PNP is designed to help meet the unique immigration goals of each province, so the eligibility criteria and application procedures vary. The program is for workers who have the skills, education, and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory, want to live in that province, and want to become permanent residents of Canada. Each province and territory has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target students, business people, skilled workers, and semi-skilled workers. If a province or territory nominates an applicant through a PNP stream, they will be nominated by the province to apply to the federal government for permanent residence.
