In mathematics, a polynomial expression is an expression consisting of variables, coefficients, and exponents, that involves only the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and non-negative integer powers of variables. A polynomial expression can be built from constants and symbols called variables or indeterminates by means of addition, multiplication, and exponentiation to a non-negative integer power. The constants are generally numbers, but may be any expression that does not involve the indeterminates, and represent mathematical objects that can be added and multiplied. Polynomial expressions can be classified as monomials, binomials, and trinomials according to the number of terms present in the expression. A polynomial function is a function defined by a rule that assigns to each domain object a range object defined by a polynomial expression.
