Population
Population is a term used to refer to the number of people in a single area. It can also refer to a group of individuals with some predefined criterion in common, such as location, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. In ecology, a population is a group of organisms of the same species who inhabit the same particular geographical area and are capable of interbreeding. The size of a population is an important characteristic with significant implications for the dynamics of the population as a whole. Population can also refer to any complete set of data in the statistical sense, and statisticians refer to whatever group they are studying as a population. In the demographic or geopolitical context, a population refers to the entirety of the people inhabiting a particular region, country, or even the entire planet. Governments conduct a census to quantify the size of a resident population within a given jurisdiction.
