The Purple Line is a subway line in the Los Angeles Metro Rail system that begins at Union Station in Downtown L.A. and terminates at Wilshire/Western in Koreatown
. It is one of the city's two fully underground lines, along with the B Line
. The Purple Line is being extended to the westside with the Purple (D Line) Extension Transit Project, which will add seven new stations and a reliable, high-speed connection between downtown and the Westside
. The extension will extend westward for about nine miles with seven new stations, providing a high-capacity, high-speed, dependable alternative for those traveling to and from L.A.’s “second Downtown,” including Beverly Hills, Century City, and Westwood
. The Purple Line Extension Section 1 project extends the Purple Line subway nine miles, creating seven new underground stations, taking riders from the Wilshire/Western Station to the VA Hospital west of the I-405
. In 2020, Metro renamed all of its lines using letters and colors, with the Purple Line becoming the D Line (retaining the purple color in its service bullet)
