PV can refer to two different things:
-
Photovoltaics: PV is the conversion of light into electricity using semiconducting materials that exhibit the photovoltaic effect. This technology is used for electricity generation and as photosensors. A photovoltaic system employs solar modules, each comprising a number of solar cells, which generate electrical power. PV installations may be ground-mounted, rooftop-mounted, wall-mounted or floating.
-
Polycythemia Vera: PV is a rare, chronic blood cancer in which a persons body makes too many red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This condition can cause thick and sluggish blood, increasing the risk of blood clots and complications such as heart attack and stroke. Symptoms of PV include itchiness, numbness, tingling, burning, or weakness in the hands, feet, arms, or legs, as well as a feeling of fullness soon after eating. PV is a type of blood cancer known as myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) .
