Rabi crop, also known as winter crop, is a type of agricultural crop that is sown in winter and harvested in spring in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The term "rabi" is derived from the Arabic word for "spring". Rabi crops are grown either with rainwater that has percolated into the ground or using irrigation. Some examples of rabi crops grown in India are wheat, barley, mustard, sesame, and peas. The major benefit of growing rabi crops in winter is the moisture that is readily available because of the previous monsoon season, which left the soil well hydrated. Unseasonal showers in November and December are harmful to the growth of rabi crops.
