RAC stands for "Reservation Against Cancellation." It is a type of ticket that can be sold for travel on the Indian Railways. An RAC ticket ensures certainty of travel but does not guarantee a berth. When you have an RAC ticket, you may have to share a berth with another passenger who also has an RAC ticket. If there are last-minute cancellations or unsold quotas, RAC ticket holders may get an empty berth. The status of an RAC ticket is denoted by two numbers, such as RAC8/RAC2, where the first number shows the status of the ticket at the time of booking, and the second number shows the current status of the ticket. RAC tickets can be canceled with minimal charges up to 30 minutes before the departure of the train from the original station, and no refund is given if canceled later than that.
