Racial bias is a personal and sometimes unreasoned judgment made solely on an individuals race. It is a form of prejudice that assumes that members of racial categories have distinctive characteristics and that these differences result in some racial groups being inferior to others. Racial bias affects the way we think, our attitudes, and our behavior towards those outside our own group. It can be subtle and buried deep in a persons subconscious, the byproducts of exposure to popular culture, the media, and other factors. Racial discrimination is usually the behavioral manifestation of prejudice and therefore involves negative, hostile, and injurious treatment of members of rejected groups. Examples of racial discrimination include overt prejudice, hostility, or negative feelings held by someone about a racialized person or group, stereotyping, and racial profiling.
