RSP stands for Resource Specialist Program, which is a form of special education available to students who have mild to moderate learning disabilities. The program is designed to give support to children with learning disabilities and provide them with strategies to help them be successful in their education. Students in RSP must be of at least average intelligence, and the law calls it a Specific Learning Disability. The RSP program provides tailored instructional services to students with disabilities based upon the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) teams determination that a students special needs can successfully be met within this least restrictive environment. The Resource Specialist (RSP) Teacher works under the direction of the school principal and the Director of Special Education. The Resource Specialist provides consultation, resource information, and materials regarding students with exceptional needs to parents and general education teachers, coordinates special education services with general and preschool programs, monitors pupil progress, participates in review and revision of individualized education programs, and refers pupils who do not show progress.
