Ruqyah is a practice in Islam that involves the recitation of specific Quranic verses or saheeh hadith for seeking refuge in Allah and healing from ailments and sickness. It is similar to a form of du’a that contains the recitation of certain Quranic verses, as well as other incantations and invocations according to the Prophetic tradition of Prophet Muhammad. Ruqyah is believed to repair damage believed to have been caused by jinn possession, witchcraft (sihr), or the evil eye. It is a means of cure for evil eye, magic, jinn, and physical ailments. The verses recited in Ruqyah are said to be a source of healing and are primarily for seeking refuge in Allah. Performing Ruqyah is not complicated, and one can begin by simply reciting Surah Fatiha or the Al-Mu’awwidhaat (Surah Falaq and Surah Nas) . Ruqyah is part of a wider body of Islamic medicine called "prophetic medicine".
