Windows 11 in S mode is a version of Windows 11 that is designed for security and performance, exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store. It is only available in the Windows 11 Home edition. S mode is meant to keep users safe by restricting apps to the Microsoft Store, but that could be annoying for those comfortable with installing apps from other sources. If you want to install an app that isnt available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. Switching out of S mode is one-way, and if you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 11 in S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode, and the process is irreversible. To switch out of S mode, you need to open Settings > System > Activation, and in the Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, select Go to the Store.
