SAG-AFTRA is a labor union that represents approximately 160,000 media professionals worldwide. It was formed on March 30, 2012, following the merger of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. SAG-AFTRA members include actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists, and other media professionals. The union negotiates with producers, record labels, broadcast TV networks, and radio stations to establish minimum wages and working conditions for members working under their contracts. SAG-AFTRA also works to get residuals for its members by enforcing contracts and collecting residuals, which helps members maintain an income between jobs. The union provides various benefits to its members, including eligibility for the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan, SAG-Producers Pension Plan, and SAG-AFTRA Intellectual Property Rights Distribution Fund. SAG-AFTRA is committed to securing the strongest protections for media artists and raising standards across the entertainment and media industries.
