SAG-AFTRA, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, is an American labor union that represents approximately 160,000 media professionals worldwide. It is the result of the 2012 merger of SAG and AFTRA, two labor unions with rich histories of fighting for and securing protections for media artists. SAG-AFTRAs mission is to organize all work done under its jurisdictions, negotiate the best wages, working conditions, and health and pension benefits for its members. The union includes professional actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, and stunt performers. SAG-AFTRA is also involved in negotiating agreements, such as the Micro-Budget Project Agreement, which is designed to provide a streamlined signatory process for independent producers with a project budget of $20,000 or less.
