In Baldurs Gate 3, a saving throw is a roll that a character makes to resist a harmful effect, such as a spell, trap, poison, disease, or environmental hazard. Each saving throw is tied to an ability score that determines its type, such as Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Charisma, or Intelligence. To make a saving throw, a player rolls a d20 and adds the appropriate ability modifier for the character. The creatures proficiency bonus (if proficient in that type of saving throw) is also added to the roll. The result must reach or exceed a value known as the Difficulty Class (DC) for the save to succeed. Saving throws can be modified by situational bonuses or penalties and can be affected by advantage or disadvantage.
