Schedule III drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence. They have less potential for abuse than Schedule I and Schedule II drugs but more than Schedule IV drugs. Some examples of Schedule III drugs include products containing less than 90 milligrams of codeine per dosage unit (Tylenol with codeine), ketamine, anabolic steroids, and testosterone. These drugs can be obtained through prescription, but generally are not available over the counter. When misused, Schedule III drugs can still lead to abuse or addiction.
