Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) is a cloud-based architecture that delivers converged network and security as a service capabilities, including SD-WAN, cloud-native security functions such as secure web gateways, cloud access security brokers, firewalls, and zero-trust network access. SASE is designed to provide fast and secure connectivity between users and applications, on any device, in any location. It consolidates numerous networking and security functions in a single, integrated cloud service, which reduces complexity, improves speed and agility, enables multicloud networking, and secures the new SD-WAN-enabled architecture.

SASE vendors offer consistent security via a single cloud service for all WAN security functions and WAN connections. Security is based on the same set of policies, with the same security functions delivered by the same cloud service to any access session, regardless of application, user or device location and destination (cloud, data center application) . The SASE model is expected to grow to $15 Billion in 2025, with buyers split between adopting a single or multiple vendor solution.
