A sexologist is someone who studies or researches sex in the broadest sense. They are also someone who works in a private or group practice and is engaged in helping clients resolve their relationship and sexual health issues. Sexologists have studied the science of sex, which means they have studied human anatomy and physiology, psychology, sociology, and anthropology. They generally have an advanced degree such as a masters (MA), professional doctorate (DHS), or doctorate of philosophy (Ph.D.) in Human Sexuality Studies. A sex therapist is a type of sexologist who has advanced training in counseling psychology as well as in sexuality. They facilitate clients sexual growth by helping them to identify their sexual goals and by offering education, resources, tools, and techniques to help them meet those goals and ultimately manage their sexual health.
