Shahada is the first pillar of Islam and is the declaration of faith in one God (Allah) and His messenger, Muhammad. The Shahada is an Islamic oath and creed, and it is a statement of both ritual and worship. The Shahada declares belief in the oneness (tawhid) of God and the acceptance of Muhammad as Gods messenger. In Sunni Islam, the Shahada has two parts: lā ʾilāha ʾillā -llāh ("There is no deity except God"), and muḥammadun rasūlu llāh ("Muhammad is the Messenger of God") . The Shahada must be recited by every Muslim at least once in a lifetime, aloud, correctly, and purposively, with a full understanding of its meaning and with an assent of the heart.
