The Shar Pei is a distinctive dog breed originating from southern China, known for its deep wrinkles and rough, sandpaper-like coat. Traditionally used as property guardians and for hunting, they have a history dating back over 2,000 years. Shar Peis have unique blue-black tongues, a feature shared only with the Chow Chow breed. They are medium-sized dogs, typically standing 44 to 51 cm tall and weighing 16 to 25 kg. The breed is characterized by its wrinkled skin, broad muzzle, small triangular ears, and a curled tail. Personality- wise, Shar Peis are loyal, intelligent, and protective but can be reserved or aloof with strangers. They bond closely to one person in the family and require early socialization and consistent training to manage their strong- willed nature. They tend to be calm and low-energy, needing moderate exercise and care, especially for their ears and coat wrinkles.
