Simple permanent tissue is a type of permanent tissue that is made up of similar cells that perform the same function. These tissues are not specialized and occur in homogenous groups. Simple permanent tissue is further classified into three types:
- Parenchyma: Cells have an oval or round shape, thin-walled, and have vacuoles and a very small nucleus. It is found in all parts of the plant.
- Collenchyma: Cells are long and thick-walled, and the cell wall is made up of cellulose and pectin. It is found in the epidermis and the vascular bundle of dicot leaf.
- Sclerenchyma: Cells are dead, thick-walled, and lignified. They provide mechanical support to the plant and are found in the stem, roots, and leaves.
Simple permanent tissues are responsible for various functions such as photosynthesis, storage, and support.
