Structured water, also known as hexagonal water, is a type of water with a unique structure that has supposedly been altered to form a hexagonal cluster. Proponents of structured water claim that it shares similarities with water that hasn’t been polluted or contaminated by human processes, and that these qualities make it healthier than tap or filtered water. Structured water exists naturally in mountain springs, glacier melt, and other untouched sources, and it can also be created by magnetizing it through a process called vortexing or exposing it to ultraviolet (UV) or infrared light.
Structured water has a chemical formula of H3O2, which means it has three hydrogen molecules combined with two oxygen molecules—different from the normal H2O formula. The majority of the water in the human body is structured water as bodily tissues are hydrophilic.
While proponents of structured water claim that it holds a unique hexagonal shape, water molecules are in constant motion, which means that its structure is frequently changing. It is possible to make structured water from the comfort of your own home using several different methods, including vortexing and exposure to UV or infrared light.
There is no scientific consensus on the health benefits of structured water, and some scientists have dismissed claims about structured water as pseudoscientific.
