Subaru X-Mode is a software program engineered to provide advanced, SUV-like control and get you up and down vertiginous terrain. It is an advanced form of all-wheel drive (AWD) that complements Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD to allow drivers to take the road less travelled, get muddier, and have more daring adventures. X-Mode controls the engine output, transmission, AWD torque split, and braking system to help tackle the trickiest of conditions. It uses lower gear ratios to generate extra power at the wheels, which helps the driver make the most of the power that is available. X-Mode also improves AWD control by raising the front/rear coupling force, which helps the driver drive power more evenly between the four wheels, maximizing the traction of the tires. X-Mode incorporates Hill Descent Control, which helps maintain vehicle starting speed for safer maneuvering at low speeds (under 12 mph). There are two different versions of Subaru X-Mode: single-mode X-Mode comes with a snow/dirt setting, while dual-mode X-Mode comes with a snow/dirt setting as well as a deep snow/mud setting.
