A tablet is a mobile device that typically has a touchscreen display, processing circuitry, and a rechargeable battery in a single, thin and flat package. It is a wireless, portable personal computer with a touchscreen interface that is smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a smartphone. Tablets can access the internet and act in many ways like a computer, but lack some input/output (I/O) abilities that others have. They can be pretty powerful for their small size and can be used for word processing, spreadsheet work, recording video, streaming video, listening to music, and much more. The main features of a tablet include a touchscreen display, wireless connectivity, a rechargeable battery, and a variety of apps. Tablets can be classified into different types such as slate tablets, convertible tablets, hybrid tablets, and rugged tablets. The form of the tablet was conceptualized in the middle of the 20th century and prototyped and developed in the last two decades of that century. In 2010, Apple released the iPad, the first mass-market tablet to achieve widespread popularity, and thereafter, tablets rapidly rose in ubiquity and soon became a large market.
