Tadalafil is a medication used for several purposes. It is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men, which is the inability to get or keep an erection. It is also used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlarged prostate gland. In addition, tadalafil is used to improve the ability to exercise in people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), which is high blood pressure in the vessels carrying blood to the lungs. Tadalafil belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors, and it works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder, and relaxing the blood vessels in the lungs to allow blood to flow more easily
