TDR stands for Ticket Deposit Receipt, which is a process of claiming a refund for a booked ticket from Indian Railways (IRCTC) . It is meant for people who do not undertake a train journey despite having a booked ticket and want to apply for a refund. TDR can be filed in the following cases:

  • There was a change in reservation status from Confirmed to Waitlisted/Part Waitlisted/RAC
  • The passenger has traveled in a lower class
  • The passenger could not travel as reservation was provided in a lower class
  • The passenger could not travel due to the ticket in RAC after chart preparation
  • The train was diverted and did not touch the boarding station
  • The train was diverted and did not touch the destination station
  • The passenger was wrongly charged by the TTE
  • The passenger traveled without proper ID proof
  • The train terminated short of the destination

TDR shall be filed within 20 hours of actual arrival of the train at the passenger’s destination, and the original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff is to be sent through post to IRCTC. TDR shall be filed up to 72 hours of actual arrival of the train at the passenger’s destination, and the original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff is to be sent through post to IRCTC. The refund process will take at least 60 days and more.
