Prescription drugs: Several prescription drugs are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help manage symptoms in people with Alzheimer's, such as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and memantine. Lecanemab (Leqembiâ˘) has also recently received accelerated approval as a treatment for early Alzheimer's from the FDA. These drugs can help temporarily improve memory, thinking, and reasoning problems, as well as day-to-day function. However, they work best for people in the early or middle stages of Alzheimer's.
