The BRICS Summit is an annual international relations conference attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The first formal summit was held in Yekaterinburg in 2009, with the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, and China attending. South Africa joined the group in 2010, and the grouping has held annual summits since then. The summits focus is on improving the global economic situation, reforming financial institutions, and discussing how the member countries can better cooperate in the future. The BRICS Summit 2023 was held in Johannesburg, South Africa from August 22-24, 2023. The leaders of the BRICS countries gathered to discuss issues related to global governance, economic growth, and sustainable development.
