The capital of Peru is Lima. Lima is the largest city in Peru and is located on the Pacific coast, overlooking the ocean. It is the countrys commercial and industrial center and is home to the three branches of the Government of Peru. The city is located at an elevation of 512 feet (156 meters) on the south bank of the Rímac River. Lima is also known as "The City of Kings" and was founded on January 18, 1535, by the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro.
