The common currency of the European Union is the euro (€). It is the official currency used by 20 of the 27 EU member states, collectively known as the eurozone. These countries have adopted the euro as their primary currency and sole legal tender, and the European Central Bank manages its monetary policy. While most EU countries use the euro, some like Denmark have opted out of adopting it, and others retain their own currencies until they meet the necessary criteria to join the eurozone.
