The deepest part of the ocean is the Challenger Deep, located in the Mariana Trench beneath the western Pacific Ocean, near the southern end of the Mariana Islands. The maximum known depth of the Challenger Deep is approximately 10,935 meters (35,876 feet). This makes it the deepest known point on Earths surface, deeper than the height of Mount Everest. The Mariana Trench itself is about 2,550 kilometers (1,580 miles) in length and 69 kilometers (43 miles) in width.
