The Boeing Dreamlifter is a wide-body cargo aircraft designed to transport Boeing 787 Dreamliner parts between Italy, Japan, and the U.S. . It is a heavily modified version of the Boeing 747-400 passenger-hauler, featuring an extra-deep fuselage. The Dreamlifter is the worlds longest cargo aircraft and is certainly one of the more visually striking as well. It has a cargo capacity of 65,000 cubic feet, which is more than twice that of a 747-400F freighter. The Dreamlifter has also flown medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boeing outsourced the operation of the Dreamlifter to Evergreen International Airlines, which lost the contract to Atlas Air in 2010. The Dreamlifter has been modified over the years to withstand larger payloads like the wings of the mid-fuselage. From its first flight in 2006 until certification in 2007, the Dreamlifter completed 437 hours of flight testing.
