The expanded form of Cartosat is not a mathematical expression, but rather a description of the series of Indian optical earth observation satellites built and operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) . The name "Cartosat" is a combination of "Cartography" and "Satellite". The Cartosat series is a part of the Indian Remote Sensing Program and is used for Earths resource management, defense services, and monitoring. The expanded Cartosat series of remote sensing satellites was launched in response to increased demand for large-scale and topographic mapping data. The series includes several satellites, such as Cartosat-1, Cartosat-2, and Cartosat-2C, each with different capabilities and resolutions. The data from these satellites is used for detailed mapping and other cartographic applications at cad-astral level, urban and rural infrastructure development and management, as well as applications in Land Information System (LIS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) .
