The feminine of duck is simply "duck" or "hen". The term "hen" refers solely to females, while male ducks are known as drakes. Female ducks are generally smaller and shorter-necked than males, and they have plain plumage that is much duller than males. They also have a corkscrew-shaped vagina to prevent rape. To tell the difference between male and female ducks, you can look at their feathers during mating season since male ducks will have very bright coloration to attract mates. Another way to tell the difference is to examine their reproductive organs within the cloaca. Male ducks have a protruding penis, while female ducks have an oviduct opening that more closely resembles a series of folds.
