The Grio Awards are annual national awards presented in a number of categories by TheGrio, an American news website geared toward African Americans. The awards honor icons, leaders, and legends who have made an impact on the Black community and culture. The ten award categories include Business, Health, Education, Science & the Environment, Media, Pop Culture, Arts & Culture, Service & Activism, Politics, and Sports. The winners are selected from various sections of America, and the top 100 change every year. The awards were created by Byron Allen, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Allen Media Group, who owns TheGrio. The ceremony features musical performances and honors individuals from various fields, including film, music, comedy, television, sports, philanthropy, business, fashion, social justice, environmental justice, and education
