The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a revelation from God. It contains prayers, moral guidance, historical narrative, and promises of Paradise. Muslims believe that the Quran was revealed to Muhammad over a period of twenty-three years, starting with the initial revelation at Mount Hira. After the Prophet's death, his successors compiled these divine revelations in a manuscript. The Quran is divided into 114 chapters (suras) organized in descending length. It is made up of words which contain truth and guidance for every human being, and Muslims believe that these are words revealed directly by God, in the Arabic language, to the last of His prophets and messengers, Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him). The Quran has been translated into over 100 different languages, and each translation can be considered its own interpretation of the original Arabic text. It is important to note, however, that the Quran is the word of God and is therefore sacred and unchangeable
