The largest living structure on Earth is the Great Barrier Reef. It is a massive coral reef system located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. The Great Barrier Reef spans about 1,243 miles (2,000 kilometers) and covers an area of approximately 135,136 square miles (350,000 square kilometers). It is composed of around 3,000 individual reefs and 900 coral islands, supporting a diverse ecosystem with thousands of marine species. Notably, it is the only living structure visible from space.
